South Korean automaker Hyundai is also looking to enter the metaverse, but its vision for this virtual space is more ambitious. At CES 2022, Hyundai introduced the Boston Dynamics robot concept to help humans “overcome the physical limits of motion in time and space”. Talking about the concept behind the company’s concept, Hyundai wants to create a digital twin of its own, which will do the work for you or experience things on your behalf.
Hyundai gave this example of reaching out to your digital twin in the metaverse and feeding or hugging your pet at home. That is, even if you are away from home, this robot will be able to do all your work. The same can also be used in factories to work on things in the real world.
The futuristic example given by Hyundai was a plan to make people experience how you can experience it without actually going to Mars. In a video shown by Hyundai, a father and daughter are seen experiencing the Red Planet through the Boston Dynamics Spot robot, which is physically there. Pay attention to who’s on Mars, who will scan the planet collecting real-time data and imagery for your digital avatars to experience in the metaverse.
Hyundai also envisions this technology to give you an experience of what a sandstorm feels like with real-time wind data collection and even touching rocks and other objects. For now, the company has just introduced this concept, and we don’t know when exactly such a metaverse experience will be possible. But it definitely gives us a glimpse of the future, which sounds exciting but also scary.
