Bhubaneswar. The Vigilance Department of Odisha has seized a record Rs 1.39 crore in cash during raids on the properties of Ashish Kumar Das, Superintending Engineer of Rural Works in Malkangiri. This information was given by the officials on Monday. In fact, on March 25, Vigilance recovered Rs 10.23 lakh in cash from him. Since then their residential quarters, offices etc. are being searched simultaneously.
During the four-day raid, the Vigilance officers seized Rs 1.39 crore in cash from Das, which is the highest ever cash seizure in the history of the Vigilance Department. Vigilance DSP Sushant Kumar Biswal said that during the search, the Vigilance has also seized 1.2 kg of gold.
Biswal said, during this raid, the Vigilance Department has so far received bank and insurance deposits of more than Rs 4 crore. The verification of other bank accounts and two bank lockers is yet to be done. Hence, there is a possibility of further growth in assets.
Director of Vigilance Department, Y.K. Jethwa said, the anti-corruption wing has so far registered 62 cases and arrested 43 government employees, including 14 class-1 officers, for indulging in corrupt practices in 2022.
