Tokyo, July 26 (IANS)| India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost their second Group A match in the men’s doubles badminton event at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday. Reddy and Shetty lost to Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjay. Rankireddy/Shetty, who won their first group match against world number three Taiwanese pair of Yang Lee and Chi Lin Wan, went down 21-13, 21-12 to the Indonesian pair in just 31 minutes.
The men’s doubles pairing of Gideon and Sucamuljo, who had proved to be the best of the last few years, was too strong for the Indians and did not give them any chance. Rankireddy/Shetty now have one more match left against British pair Ben Lane and Sean Wendy and if they win, they will qualify for the knockout stages. Two out of four teams from the four-team group will qualify for the next stage. Currently, the Indian pair are second in the group with three points from two matches. Li and Wang from Chinese Taipei also have the same score. The British pair have lost both their matches.
