Pakistan Television (PTV) and Parliament House were attacked during a sit-in on 31 August 2014 by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. During this, the protesters took control of PTV for some time, but the army removed them from there.
Following this, the police registered a case against PTI chief and Prime Minister Imran Khan and senior party leaders such as Alvi, Asad Umar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shafqat Mehmood and Raja Khurram Nawaz for inciting violence under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Alvi along with his lawyer Babar Awan appeared before ATC judge Mohammad Ali Waraich in Islamabad. He filed an application for refusal to avail the immunity of the President under Article 248 of the Constitution. He told the court that I want to take it (immunity) back because I believe there should be no difference between anyone. Along with this, he wants to avoid the tag that he did not appear before the court.
Before the judge, Alvi demanded justice at the earliest. He said that in 1971 his father had filed a case which is still pending. The matter remained stuck for years before the court concluded the hearing and reserved the verdict last month. Now it will be announced on 9 March. He said that he wanted to present his side before the verdict came.
Talking to reporters after appearing in the court, Alvi said that he too had come to the court to seek justice like any normal Pakistani. He said that today I appeared before the court as a common citizen and not as the President of Pakistan.
