Amritsar . Just three days after AAP’s maiden victory in Punjab, party convenor Arvind Kejriwal along with Chief Minister-nominated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the city’s holiest Sikh and Hindu shrines on Sunday to offer prayers. Later in the Vijay Roadshow thanked the people for giving the party a thumping victory. Emphasizing that three crore Punjabis have started an ‘Inquilab’ (revolution), the Delhi Chief Minister said that for the first time after so many years, Punjab has got an honest Chief Minister.
He said, “Tusi kamal kar dita (You did a miracle). I love you Punjab. The whole world knows that Punjabis bring revolution, but still could not believe that this state can sweep such an incredible ‘Inquilab’. Everyone lost, Sukhbir ji, Parkash Singh Badal ji, Manpreet Badal lost, Channi lost in both the seats, Majithia ji, Navjot Singh Sidhu ji also tasted defeat.”
“Now all the money will be spent on Punjab and its people. We will fulfill all the guarantees and make ‘Rangala’ or Khushal Punjab,” he said.
The roadshow passed through different areas and AAP supporters led by MLAs showered flowers on both Kejriwal and Mann. Both were standing in an open vehicle.
Many of the thousands of supporters were holding the tricolor and party flag. These included the elderly and women. He greeted the AAP leaders amidst applause.
Earlier, Kejriwal and Mann offered prayers at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple and prayed for the prosperity and peace of Punjab.
He also paid floral tributes at the Jallianwala Bagh memorial near the Golden Temple complex.
Party leaders Manish Sisodia and Raghav Chadha held a roadshow in the presence of Amritsar Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, in which at least 16 councilors of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation participated.
The AAP has wiped out the Congress and the SAD-BSP alliance by defeating stalwarts like Charanjit Singh Channi, Parkash Singh Badal and Amarinder Singh, both incumbent and former chief ministers.
Party sources said that the nominated Chief Minister Mann will take oath alone on Wednesday.
A source told -AnyTV News that the swearing-in ceremony of his cabinet would take place later, which could be attended by 17 members.
AAP has won 92 seats in Punjab. Its vote share increased from 20 in 2017 to 42.4 percent.
A day earlier, Mann met Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan here and staked claim to form the government.
He is set to take oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Punjab on March 16 at 12.30 pm at Khatkar Kalan, the native village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.
Addressing the media outside the Raj Bhavan on Saturday, Mann had said, “We also informed the Governor about the venue and time of the swearing-in ceremony. I have invited all the people of Punjab to come to Khatkar Kalan on this historic occasion.” On March 16, not only we and our ministers, all the people of Punjab will take an oath to make Punjab prosperous again. Together we will make Punjab prosperous.”
In a directive to the newly-elected party MLAs, Mann asked them to spend maximum time in their respective constituencies, not in the capital Chandigarh or yearning for a cabinet berth.
After being elected the leader of the AAP legislature party, Mann had said, “We have to work for all the places where we went to seek votes. All the MLAs should work in the areas from where they were elected, not for them.” That stay only in Chandigarh.”
