Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and several other MPs staged a sit-in near Parliament on Thursday against the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG as part of the party’s ‘Dearness Free India’ campaign. On this occasion, Rahul said that the government should control the prices of petroleum products and should not increase in any way, because the poor and middle class people are being hit the hardest by inflation.
Party MPs staged a sit-in at Vijay Chowk about one and a half hours before the commencement of the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament as part of the Congress’s inflation-free India campaign. Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal and many other MPs participated in this. Congress MPs also raised slogans against the government. During this, Rahul Gandhi also garlanded flowers on a motorcycle and cylinder.

Worshiped by garlanding the cylinder as a taunt
Congress leaders mocked the central government by placing an overturned motorcycle and LPG cylinders at the protest site. At the behest of the central leadership, leaders of the party’s Karnataka Unique took to the streets with gas cylinders decorated as deities, which were worshiped by a priest. Party workers were also seen beating utensils. By doing so, he took a jibe at PM Modi, who suggested beating the plate in support of health workers during the Corona epidemic.
‘Government is earning thousands of crores but…’
At the same time, after the dharna, Rahul Gandhi said, “The Congress party is protesting all over the country against the increase in inflation, especially the prices of petrol and diesel. In the last 10 days, there has been an increase of nine times. The government will get thousands of crores from this increase. It is earning Rs. The most hurt is on the poor and middle class. Our demand is that the government should control the price of petrol and diesel and stop increasing the prices.”
‘Take money out of the pockets of the poor for industrialists’
The Congress leader alleged that the price of LPG cylinders has doubled. Now the price of petrol in Delhi has gone up to Rs 102 per liter. The government is doing only one thing – take money out of the pockets of the poor and benefit two-three big industrialists. It is to be known that in a meeting of Congress general secretaries and state in-charges held on Saturday, it was decided that the party will run ‘Dearness Free India’ campaign in three phases from March 31 to corner the government over the hike in prices. This campaign will run till 7 April.
