Army’s help is being taken for relief and rescue work, people trapped in water are being evacuated by helicopter
Bhopal, Aug 3 (IANS) | In Madhya Pradesh, the rains of the last one week have wreaked havoc in many areas. Rivers, streams are in spate, settlements have been submerged and villages are inundated with water. Army’s help is being sought in relief and rescue operations. People trapped in the water are being rescued by helicopter. So far, more than 16 hundred people trapped in the floods in the state have been shifted to safer places. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also learned about the flood situation in the state. About 1171 villages in Shivpuri, Sheopur, Datia, Gwalior, Bhind and Rewa have been affected due to excessive rains and floods. A total of 200 villages are surrounded. The team of SDERF, NDERF has evacuated about 1600 people to a safe place. The army has been called in for relief and rescue. Air Force helicopters are being helped in relief and rescue operations.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has told that five helicopters took off from Gwalior on Tuesday morning. They could not descend for rescue due to bad weather. As soon as the weather improves, helicopters will again leave for relief and rescue work. Especially 22 villages in Shivpuri and Sheopur are surrounded by water. Yesterday 11 people were evacuated by the Air Force. 70 teams of SDERF and three teams of NDERF are engaged in the rescue operation. The Center has been requested to send more teams.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that due to excessive rains and floods, a dire situation has arisen. Shivpuri and Sheopur received 800 mm of rain in two days. Flood situation has been created due to this unpredictable rain. It felt like the clouds had burst. The boat is unable to sail due to the flow of water. Three people were stuck on a tree in Beechi village of Shivpuri, who have been rescued. Villages far and wide are empty. A priest is surrounded on the roof of the temple. We are worrying about them. Food and relief arrangements are being made. Efforts are being made to build consolation.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that the collectors of the affected districts Shivpuri, Datia, Gwalior, Ashoknagar are in touch. Water was released due to excess water in Madikheda Dam. Before the Dam, 12 thousand 500 cusecs of water was being released, now it has been reduced to 10 thousand 500 cusecs. The people of the villages affected by the release of water from the dam have been alerted. The effect of rain has also reduced. Now the situation will improve soon.
Chief Minister Chouhan apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone about the situation of excessive rainfall and floods in the state and said that due to continuous rainfall in Gwalior-Chambal region of the state, a dire situation remains. Prime Minister Modi has assured all possible cooperation from the Centre. Similarly, Chief Minister Chouhan discussed over phone with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and apprised him about the flood situation in some districts of Madhya Pradesh due to excessive rainfall. Thanked Defense Minister for sending NDRF and Air Force and also requested to send additional army. Defense Minister assured Chief Minister Chouhan that all possible help would be extended to Madhya Pradesh.
