Former female journalist had reached the restaurant to celebrate her daughter’s birthday
A video is going viral on social media, in which a woman is asking an employee of a restaurant in the national capital whether wearing a sari is not allowed in the restaurant. The employee replies that sarees are not counted as smart casuals, whereas the hotel only allows smart casuals. The restaurant refused entry to the woman who arrived wearing a sari, who is a former journalist. However, after the video of the restaurant located in the posh Khel Village posh area, netizens (who spend time on the internet) are criticizing a lot and taking out a lot of anger over the policy of not allowing women to enter the restaurant with a sari.
The video has been shared by former journalist Anita Choudhary, who was there to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. Speaking to IANS, Anita said, We had booked a table at a restaurant named Aquila in Khel Village to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, but they did not let me in as I was wearing a saree, which They do not consider a smart casual. He said that even after his daughter opposed the decision to let her mother inside, the restaurant staff said they would only allow her, not her mother, as she was wearing a sari.

Anita Choudhary told IANS that she repeatedly asked the staff at the gate to show her the rule book, which does not allow women to wear saris inside the restaurant. But, instead of showing that the staff kept on repeating that they cannot allow a woman to enter the restaurant wearing a sari. The woman said that the restaurant manager and other staff also came outside the hotel and threatened to call the bouncers and police if there was a ruckus in the hotel. “Even our table was already booked, we decided to leave the venue as they were not ready to allow me inside,” he said.
Sharing the video, Anita Chowdhary wrote, ‘Sari is not allowed in Aquila restaurant, because Indian saree is not smart wear. What is the definition of smart wear? Please give the definition of smart wear, so that I can stop wearing saree. One user said, “The restaurant in Delhi (Aquila) which refused to let a woman inside because she was wearing a sari has terrible ratings everywhere.” Rating on Google is 1.1/5. It’s 2/5 on Zomato. This is not the first time he has made a mistake. Check out the previous reviews and you’ll find that everyone who’s been there hates them.
