There was a festive atmosphere in the district on Thursday when former Unnao MP Brajesh Pathak was made Deputy Chief Minister in Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet. Pathak had reached Delhi for the first time in 2004 as an MP from Unnao on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket. In his first term itself, he had made a mark in the state as a mini chief minister.
During this, Baspai blocks were made in 15 out of 16 development blocks of Unnao. The most important work was to build a bridge over the Ganges river between Unnao and Kanpur. Due to this, traffic in both the districts became more accessible. Brajesh Pathak’s place in the Council of Ministers as a Brahmin face in place of Dinesh Sharma will increase his influence in the politics of the state.
After this, even as a member of the Rajya Sabha and as a law minister in the Yogi cabinet, he maintained his closeness to the general public of Unnao. As soon as the news of his becoming the Deputy Chief Minister was received, people in close proximity were seen congratulating each other by gathering at his residence in Mohalla Housing Development of the city.
Brajesh Pathak’s wife Nirmala Pathak contested the then state’s (Vice President of the Women’s Commission) from the Sadar seat here, but could not win. Arvind Tripathi Guddu, a close relative of Brajesh Pathak, was a local body member in the Legislative Council during the BSP regime. His ancestral residence in Mallawan, a town on the border of Unnao and Hardoi districts, was also crowded.
