The Karnataka government has decided to provide Y category security to three judges, including High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, who had recently upheld the ban on hijab in educational institutions in the state. The state government has taken this decision after threatening to kill Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and other judges.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in a statement, “We have decided to provide Y category security to the three judges who gave the verdict on the hijab. I have directed the DG and IG to conduct a thorough inquiry into the complaint lodged with the Vidhana Soudha police station in which some people had threatened to kill the judges.”
The police have registered a case in this case after the video surfaced threatening to kill the judges of the High Court. According to police sources, two people from Tamil Nadu have been arrested in this case. At the same time, a complaint in this regard was filed by Advocate Umapati S with the Registrar General of Karnataka High Court on Saturday.
The complainant says that he found a video on WhatsApp in which a man can be seen openly threatening Chief Justice Awasthi. He is referring to the alleged murder of a Jharkhand judge who was murdered during a morning walk. “The man has also made similar threats to the Chief Justice of Karnataka that people know where he goes for a walk,” the complainant said.
The complainant says that the man also referred to the judge’s visit to the Udupi Math along with his family members and was also using abusive language while talking about the court’s decision. The complainant said that the video may have been shot in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Another lawyer Sudha Katwa has also filed a police complaint regarding the viral video.
