Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Usha Rangnani said that a meeting was held at Jahangirpuri police station on Monday to maintain peace in the violence-hit north-western area of the city. Clashes broke out during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area on Saturday, in which nine policemen and a civilian were injured. According to the police, a procession was taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti at around 4.15 pm. Around 6 o’clock there was stone pelting on the procession.
Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said that 23 people from both the communities have been arrested in this case. He said those involved in violent clashes would not be spared on the basis of class, creed or religion. In response to a question, he said that no attempt was made to hoist the saffron flag in the mosque during the procession. In this case it is alleged that some people tried to hoist the flag at a mosque in Jahangirpuri. After that there was stone pelting.
However, the matter is still not settled. On Sunday, women from both the communities raised slogans outside Jahangirpuri police station. When slogans of Jai Shri Ram were raised from one side, Allah Hu Akbar was heard from the other side. The incident of stone pelting also came to light on Monday.
