Basavaraj told that he had committed this robbery by reading a crime fiction.
According to the information in the case, on March 6, a robbery was committed in the District Credit Cooperative (DCC) Bank of Belagavi. After which it was revealed in the police investigation that Basavaraj Sidlingappa Hunashikatti, a clerk working in the bank, was the mastermind of the whole incident. When the police took Basavaraj into custody and interrogated him, it was found that he had carried out the robbery by reading a Hollywood crime fiction.
Basavaraj told the police that he had made fake keys of all the lockers. Then the looted goods were buried in a sugarcane field. In which Rs 4 crore cash and 3 kg gold were hidden. After this Basavaraj narrated the entire incident to the police in a sequential manner. When the police asked about not robbing a locker, Basavaraj told that the locker belonged to a monk.
Basavaraj said that Rs 6 lakh and some gold were kept in a locker of the bank. That locker belonged to the monk of Murugod, so he did not steal anything. Basavaraj told that he is fond of reading and watching crime fiction. Such an idea came after reading a crime fiction and watching some Hollywood heist series. Basavaraj told that he was planning this robbery since August 2021.
According to the police, Basavaraj carried out this work along with his associates. At the same time, he did not show haste in this robbery because he knew that in the month of March, the loan recovery money would also come in the bank. Apart from this, arrangements had to be made to carry the huge amount of looted money and gold. Apart from Basavaraj, the police have also arrested two people named Santosh Kalappa Kambra and Girish in this case.
