There have been many such incidents in the criminal history of the country, in which the police have lost their sweat in solving them. In many cases the investigation went on for years and still no concrete evidence could be found. One of such cases was the Neeraj Grover murder case, which stunned the whole country. The forensic team did a lot of work in this high profile case, due to which the result in this case came.
Neeraj Grover was associated with a TV production house in Mumbai. He was brutally murdered on 7 July 2008 and then his body was taken to the forest in hundreds of pieces and burnt. The murder was the result of a love triangle involving three people. One is Neeraj Grover himself, the other is Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and the third is Maria’s lover Mathew, who was a Navy officer.
In the year 2008, Maria comes to Mumbai and befriends Neeraj here. On May 6, Neeraj goes to Maria’s house located at Malad to help with shifting and then stays there for the night. In this sequence, when Maria’s boyfriend Mathew calls her, she hears a man’s voice in the house. When Mathew’s suspicion deepens, Maria tells about Neeraj. Mathew asks to send Neeraj home over phone, but Maria ignores.
After this, an angry Mathew takes a flight from Kochi and comes to Maria’s house in Mumbai. Meanwhile, a scuffle ensues between Neeraj and Mathew and Mathew stabs Neeraj in the scuffle. Then Mathew and Maria together destroy the evidence of Neeraj’s murder and put 300 pieces of the dead body in plastic bags. Maria brings her friend’s car and the dismembered body is taken to the forest and burnt.
A report is filed when Neeraj is not traced for several days. Then Maria hands over Neeraj’s phone a few days later and the case goes to court. During interrogation, Maria makes up many stories with Neeraj leaving only at 1:30 pm but finally confesses that the whole night was at home. The guard of Maria’s flat also told that he had seen both of them keeping bags in the car. Then the call details revealed the whole secret.
On July 11, 2011, the Sessions Court sentenced Mathew to thirteen years for murder and destruction of evidence. While Maria was sentenced to three years, but three years had passed since the trial, so she was later released. The forensic team had recovered bones and teeth during a search in the forest, besides collecting evidence from the car and the house. Then the DNA was matched with the relatives, due to which this case was able to reach the final process.
