The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report from the state government in 72 hours regarding the violence in Rampurhat in Birbhum district of West Bengal. On this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee got furious and said that this is Bengal, not Uttar Pradesh. Terming the Birbhum incident as unfortunate, he said his government would act in a fair manner. She will visit Rampurhat on Thursday. He said that he is concerned about the people of his state.
Mamata Banerjee said, “The government is ours. We are concerned about the people of our state. We never want anyone to be hurt. The incident of Birbhum, Rampurhat is unfortunate. I have immediately dismissed the OC, SDPO. I will go to Rampurhat tomorrow.”
The Chief Minister further said that such incidents have happened in Gujarat and Rajasthan also, but she is not justifying the Rampurhat incident. Action will be taken in a fair manner. Taking a dig at the BJP, Mamata said, “This is Bengal, not Uttar Pradesh. I had sent a delegation of Trinamool Congress to Hathras, but we were not allowed to enter. We are not stopping anyone from coming here.”
Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday targeted Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, saying that Lad Saheb is giving negative statements against the state. 11 arrests so far- At least eight people died on Tuesday after a mob allegedly torched houses following the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh in West Bengal’s Rampurhat area of Birbhum. DGP Malviya said that 11 arrests have been made in the case so far. He further said that the information about the murder of Bhadu Sheikh was received last night, an hour later, 7-8 houses in the adjoining houses were set on fire. A special investigation team has been constituted to probe the matter. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday called for imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal.
BJP demands NIA or CBI probe A BJP delegation led by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari visited Rampurhat in Birbhum. The official said, “Very unfortunate incident. Words are not enough to condemn it. The Calcutta High Court has given directions to Central Forensic. We demand NIA or CBI probe. SIT is a wing of the state government. The CM is trying to save the government. President’s rule is the only way to save Bengal.”
