Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu had targeted the Bhagwant Mann government by sharing the picture on Twitter, the police have described the woman as a ‘victim of depression’. Sidhu had shared a picture of a woman lying on the road at Dhanaula in Barnala district on Twitter. Along with this, he had targeted CM Bhagwant Mann for this.
Sidhu had said in his tweet, “Man Sahab (Bhagwant Mann) was found today on the highway in Dhanaula with hands and feet tied to a young woman who was thrashed and a man was murdered in Khemkaran. There is no fear of law. The Congress leader had targeted CM Mann and said that before inviting foreigners, ensure the security of 3 crore Punjabis here.
On this matter, Barnala Police Officer Darpan Ahluwalia said on Saturday that a 33-year-old woman had come to Dhanaula in Barnala by bus from Budhlada in Mansa. The woman had to buy some books and household items. After not being able to find a place to spend the night on Peerkhana Road, she covered herself with her ‘dupatta’ and lay down on the side of the road, the police officer said.
He said that some passersby who passed by on Saturday morning took him to Dhanaula Community Health Centre. The police informed the woman’s mother and brother and called them to the health centre. Darpan Ahluwalia said, in a statement to the police, the woman’s mother said her daughter was in “depression”.
Police refutes Sidhu’s claim of having legs tied
Contrary to Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s claim, police said the woman’s legs were not tied. The woman’s mother demanded that her photo be removed from social media. Police further said that the woman was sent home along with her mother and her brother.
