A case has been registered against 200 SP workers, including Samajwadi Party’s newly-elected MLA from Dumariaganj in Uttar Pradesh, Syeda Khatoon for raising pro-Pakistan slogans. The police allege that these slogans were raised by the supporters of Syeda Khatoon after she was elected MLA on Thursday. This complaint has been lodged by Ramakant Saroj, Sub Inspector of UP Police at Dumariaganj police station.
On Saturday, Siddharthnagar police arrested 5 local residents in this case. Samajwadi Party MLA Syeda Khatoon has termed all the allegations as baseless and said that the police is harassing her by registering fake cases.
Regarding this whole matter, the police said that, “A video was shared on social media on Friday in which people celebrating the victory of Syeda Khatoon can be heard allegedly shouting pro-Pakistan slogans.” Dumariaganj Circle Officer Ajay Kumar Srivastava said that the police have so far identified 15 people from the mob. He also said that the alleged role of the MLA and others is being probed. Police said that a case has been registered under sections 153-A, 188 and 505-2 of the IPC.
On the other hand, Syeda Khatoon said on this whole matter that, “Police is trying to harass our party workers and I will raise this issue with higher officials. We suspected that some outsiders tried to mingle with the group and allegedly raised slogans. It needs a thorough investigation.”
SP candidate Syeda Khatoon defeated BJP MLA Raghavendra Singh by 771 votes from Dumariaganj assembly seat. In the 2017 assembly elections too, there was a fight between Syeda Khatoon and Raghavendra Singh. At that time Syeda Khatoon contested the election on a BSP ticket and had to face defeat by 171 votes. Raghavendra Singh is also the state president of Hindu Yuva Vahini.
