52-year-old chain snatcher suspected of committing suicide by consuming cyanide pill
Hoskote (Karnataka), July 29 (IANS)| A notorious chain-snatching thief allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison during a police team raid on his hideout on Thursday. police gave this information. Police said that based on a tip-off, Shankar was supposed to visit the temple on Thursday. Before changing his hideout elsewhere in Chintamani and when he saw the police teams approaching, he consumed a bullet and died instantly.
“We suspect that he may have consumed a cyanide-containing pill, but it has not been confirmed yet as we are awaiting the post-mortem report,” a police officer from Hoskote police station told IANS on condition of anonymity. According to Hoskote police, the deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Shankar, a resident of Madanapalle town in Andhra Pradesh, while his partner Chandrashekhar, 52, a resident of Bengaluru, has been arrested by the Bengaluru city police.
The Hoskote police said that the two are notorious chain-snatchers who are mainly K.R. Puram and other parts of the city’s IT corridor including Whitefield, Sarjapura, Electronic City and other places involved in giving incidents. “After snatching the chain, Shankar often visited a temple located in Pillagumpe, a small village in Hosakote tehsil of Bangalore Rural district in Karnataka,” police said. Pillagumpe village is located just 20 kms from KR Puram in Bangalore which has now turned into an industrial town. Police have registered a case and investigation is on.
