The meeting approved a resolution calling on Russia to stop the war in Ukraine and withdraw all troops. 141 votes were cast in favor of this resolution and 35 countries abstained from voting, including India. At the same time, five countries voted against the proposal.
India very worried about deteriorating situation: Tirumurti
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti told the UNSC that India is deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in Ukraine. An Indian citizen was killed in Kharkiv. We express our deepest condolences to his family and every citizen who lost their lives in this struggle.
Tirumurti said that we demand a safe and unhindered passage for all Indian citizens including our students, especially from Kharkiv and other conflict zones. The Indian government has deployed senior ministers to Ukraine’s neighboring countries to facilitate the evacuation. He said that we thank all the neighboring countries like Ukraine for opening our borders and giving all facilities to our embassies at this time.
Russia said in UNGA, we are not attacking residential areas
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said before the vote on the resolution against Russia at the UNGA special session that we are not attacking residential centers and civilians. The landscape of a peaceful Ukraine can be realized if radicals are concerned about preserving the lives of civilians rather than hiding behind them.
Russian forces intensify attacks on civilian areas of Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called the Russian military’s bombing of a TV tower in Kyiv’s main square a “terror”. He said after the bloodshed at Freedom Square in Kharkiv, no one will forget this. No one will forgive this. Meanwhile, a 40-mile-long convoy of Russian tanks and other vehicles headed for Kyiv. Russian forces have now intensified attacks in civilian areas as well.
Russian invading forces have also intensified attacks on other cities and towns, including the important ports of Odessa and Mariupol. The number of people killed during the war in Ukraine is not yet clear. A senior Western intelligence official estimated that more than 5,000 Russian forces were either imprisoned or killed.
Britain’s Defense Ministry said that Russian attacks have intensified in the past two days. He said that three cities of Ukraine – Kharkiv, Kherson and Mariupol – have been surrounded by Russian forces. Russia launched attacks targeting civilian sites, including the main memorial to the Ukrainian Jewish genocide.
Andre Yermak, the head of the presidential office, said on Facebook, “A powerful missile attack is underway at the site where the (Babi) Yar monument is located. About 33,000 Jews were massacred in 1941 by the Nazis in Babi Yar.
