The current champions of IPL, Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback before the 2022 season. Team’s main fast bowler Deepak Chahar may be ruled out of the opening matches of the tournament. Deepak was injured last month in the third T20I against West Indies. In the IPL auction, the team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni bought him for Rs 14 crore.
It is likely to take several weeks for Deepak to recover. It is believed that Chahar may be out of six-seven matches. It is understood that the Chennai Super Kings are awaiting the final report from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Chahar is going through the process of rehabilitation there. As a bowling all-rounder, Chahar is one of the main players of the team. Chahar has batted brilliantly in the last three ODIs.
Pune bought Chahar for the first time
He scored an unbeaten 69 against Sri Lanka. This was followed by 54 runs against South Africa and 38 runs against West Indies. Chahar played for Pune Supergiants before Chennai in IPL. He was bought by Pune for 10 lakhs. After this, Chennai bought him in 2018 for 80 lakhs. He has taken 58 wickets in 58 matches for Chennai. Of these, 42 wickets have been taken in the powerplay.
There was a fierce fight for Deepak Chahar in the auction
In the auction, there was an initial fight between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad for Deepak. Sunrisers had distanced themselves after making a maximum bid of 10.50 crores. Delhi Capitals had placed a bid of Rs 10.75 crore. It seemed that they would be successful in buying the lamp. Then there was the entry of Chennai Super Kings.
Delhi again distanced itself after bidding for 12.75 crores. Chennai was about to buy him for Rs 13 crore when Rajasthan made a bid of Rs 13.25 crore. Despite this, Chennai did not differentiate itself. Rajasthan made a bid of 13.75 crores and Chennai again included Deepak in their team by bidding 14 crores.
