New Delhi. It is difficult for any team to score big unless a batsman plays a long innings at one end or scores a century. Especially in Test and ODI cricket. That’s why when Sri Lanka made a huge score of 531 runs against Bangladesh and that too without any century, everyone was surprised. This is the first time in Test history when not a single batsman from any team scored a century and yet the total score remained more than 530. With this, India’s 48 year old world record of scoring most runs without a century has been broken.
Sri Lanka scored 531 runs in the first innings of the second test match being played against Bangladesh. In this innings, 6 batsmen including captain Dhananjay de Silva (70) scored half-centuries, but could not score a single century. Kusal Mendis (93) fell victim to the nervous nineties and Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten after scoring 92 runs.
22 year old batsman snatched orange cap from Virat, scored 78 runs in 7 matches in IPL 2023, now T20 World Cup…
With this, the Indian record of scoring the highest number of 524 runs without a century was broken. India declared the innings against New Zealand in 1976 after scoring 524 runs for 9 wickets. Not a single century was scored in this innings of India. Mohinder Amarnath was the top scorer with 70 runs. Gundappa Vishwanath 68, Sunil Gavaskar 66, Syed Kirmani 64 and Ashok Mankad and captain Bishan Singh Bedi scored 50-50 runs.
If we talk about the second test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the host team is struggling to save defeat. After scoring 531 runs in the first innings, Sri Lanka all out host Bangladesh for 178 runs. After this the visiting team declared its second innings after scoring 157 runs for 7 wickets. In this way Bangladesh has got an impossible target of 511 runs to win. There are still two days left in the match. In such a situation, either Bangladesh will create history by winning or it will have to face defeat.
