New Delhi. Amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the country, today i.e. on Wednesday, the Supreme Court can give its verdict on the petition regarding EVM and VVPAT. In the petition filed in this case, 100 percent VVPAT verification has been demanded. The Supreme Court bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta had reserved its decision in this case on April 18 after two days of hearing. During the hearing, the court took information from the Election Commission officials on the functioning and security of EVM and VVPAT.
The Election Commission claimed that EVM is completely safe and there is no possibility of tampering in it. ADR had filed a petition in this case. In which 100 percent VVPAT matching was demanded to increase voter confidence. At present, the Election Commission adopts the process of VVPAT matching at five polling booths in each assembly constituency.

‘EVM cannot be hacked’
The Election Commission made it clear before the Supreme Court that EVM is an independent machine. It cannot be hacked or tampered with. There is no need to redesign VVPAT. The Election Commission had said in its statement that if manual counting is done instead of EVMs, then the possibility of human error cannot be ruled out. Human participation has become minimal in the current system.
‘The allegations against EVM are false’
The Election Commission told the Supreme Court that allegations of an extra vote appearing in the ‘Electronic Voting Machine’ (EVM) during the voting exercise in Kasaragod, Kerala are false. The top court was hearing petitions in which it was requested to completely verify the votes cast through EVMs through ‘Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail’ (VVPAT).
