Solar Eclipse Damage Eye: Whenever a solar eclipse occurs, there is a discussion about what will happen if we look at the Sun God with naked eyes during the solar eclipse. Many times, elders even warn that this time the solar eclipse is going to be very big, hence one should not go out during this time. But how much truth is there in this and what does science say about it? Dr. Matthew Urgoski, an eye specialist working at Northwell on Long Island in New York, has explained this in detail. While talking to Fox News, he said that it is true that if you look at the Sun with naked eyes during a solar eclipse, it will have a very bad effect on your eyesight. Even if you see a bright solar eclipse with naked eyes, it can cause permanent damage to the eyes.
What do experts say
Dr. Mathew told that this will happen in such a short time that you will not even know. The solar eclipse will affect the eyes in less than a second. Dr. Avneesh Devbhakta, eye surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Hospital, said that if you look at the solar eclipse with naked eyes without any protection, then there is a greater possibility that you may have permanent blind spots in your eyes i.e. complete blindness. Lets do it. He said that undoubtedly the solar eclipse creates a lot of curiosity but it is no less harmful.
How are eyes damaged?
Dr. Devbhakta told that the sun’s rays are very powerful in themselves. It also emits ultraviolet rays. If you look at the solar eclipse with naked eyes, it can cause a very rare injury to the retina. This is called solar retinopathy. A report published in the JAMA journal also said that in 2017, a 20-year-old girl witnessed a solar eclipse with the naked eye, after which she developed solar retinopathy. Solar retinopathy occurs when very strong ultraviolet rays from the sun directly hit the retina of the eyes. Since ultraviolet rays are very strong during the eclipse, it affects the retina rapidly. Due to this, symptoms like blurring of eyes, blind spots, sensitivity to light, deformity in eyes start appearing. That is, if you look at the solar eclipse with naked eyes, it will have a serious effect on your eyes and can cause blurred vision, retina damage and even blindness. Therefore, never view the solar eclipse with naked eyes without protection.
