New Delhi. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, who were detained by Delhi Police during their protest outside the Election Commission office, ended their protest in front of Mandir Marg police station on Tuesday evening after about 24 hours. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Saurabh Bhardwaj and Dilip Pandey, met the Trinamool leaders protesting at the police station and extended their support. A ten-member Trinamool delegation met the full bench of the Election Commission on Monday and demanded that the heads of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Income Tax Department be replaced as they were involved in alleged corruption. They are apparently working at the behest of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Trinamool leaders later announced that they were staging a 24-hour sit-in outside the Election Commission office. The delegation included Rajya Sabha members Derek O’Brien, Mohammad Nadimul Haq, Dola Sen, Saket Gokhale, Sagarika Ghosh, MLA Vivek Gupta, former MPs Arpita Ghosh, Shantanu Sen and Abir Ranjan Biswas and Trinamool’s West Bengal student unit vice-president Sudip Raha. . The delegation urged the Commission to ensure a level playing field in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and prevent ‘misuse’ of central agencies against opposition parties and leaders.

security personnel removed
The police asked the leaders to leave, but when they continued their protest, the security personnel forcibly removed them and detained them. O’Brien said he was put on a bus, which drove for about an hour and a half, after which he was taken to the Temple Road police station, where he decided to continue his protest. However, police said that the Trinamool leaders were released on Monday night, but they stayed in the police station the whole night and continued their protest.
The demonstration ended at 4:30 pm
“Today, they again reached the police station,” said a police officer. They are still allowed to go but they did not go.” The Trinamool leaders remained sitting inside the police station premises and Haq and Ghosh went out for a while and were not allowed to re-enter. They sat on strike outside the campus. Haq said, ‘I was here the whole night and went home in the morning. Now we are not being allowed to enter the police station. Trinamool leaders ended their protest around 4.30 pm and walked out of the police station raising slogans accusing the BJP of turning central agencies into its ‘branch offices’.
