Ahmedabad. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that it is not possible to run a political party without money. Gadkari said that the Center had launched the electoral bond scheme in 2017 with good intentions, which has now been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The senior BJP leader said that if the Supreme Court gives any further instructions on this matter, then all the political parties need to sit together and discuss. He made this comment at an event organized by a media house in Gift City near Gandhinagar. On a question about electoral bonds, Gadkari said, “When Arun Jaitley was the Union Finance Minister, I was part of the discussion regarding electoral bonds.
Nitin Gadkari said that no party can survive without resources. In some countries, governments fund political parties. There is no such system in India. This is how we chose this system of funding political parties. He said that the main objective behind introducing electoral bonds was that political parties should receive funds directly, but the names of the donors are not disclosed as problems arise if the party in power changes. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that just as a media house needs sponsors to fund an event, similarly political parties also need money to run their affairs.
Funding is necessary for all parties
Gadkari, a former BJP president, stressed that ‘you need to see the ground reality. How should parties fight elections? We have brought this system of electoral bonds to bring transparency. Therefore, when we introduced electoral bonds, our intentions were good. If the Supreme Court finds any flaw in it and asks us to rectify it, then all the parties will sit together and discuss it unanimously.

Transparent method of funding of parties is necessary
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that ‘in the interest of our country and value-based democracy, everyone needs to find a transparent way of funding parties. Because without money, parties cannot do any activity. It is noteworthy that in a historic decision last week, the Supreme Court canceled the electoral bond scheme before the April-May Lok Sabha elections. The Supreme Court said that this plan violates the constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression as well as the right to information. Since then State Bank of India (SBI) has released various sets of data related to electoral bonds to the Election Commission. Which includes details about the money received by political parties under the scheme.
