WI vs ENG 3rd Test, Day 2: The tail batsmen are making a lot of headlines in the third and deciding Test between West Indies and England. After England’s Jack Leach and Saqib Mahmood, the lower order batsmen of the host team have crossed the sinking ship of the team by performing brilliantly. At the end of the second day’s play, West Indies scored 232 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and they are 28 runs ahead of the English team. Let us tell you, England’s first innings was reduced to 204 runs. Leach scored 41 and Saqib Mahmood scored 49 runs during this period. There was an important partnership of 90 runs for the 10th wicket between the two batsmen.
After bowling out England in the first innings, the hosts, who came out to bat on the second day, got off to a good start. Captain Craig Brathwaite (17) and John Campbell (35) shared a 50-run partnership for the first wicket. Stokes gave the first blow to the Windies in the form of Brathwaite on the last ball of the 17th over. After the dismissal of Brathwaite, the team could not recover and in the next 78 runs, the team lost a total of 7 wickets. Windies’ score went from 50/0 to 128/7. Apart from Campbell, Kyle Meyers played the highest innings of 28 runs during this period.
After disappointing the top order, the responsibility of batting was taken up by the lower order batsmen. Wicket-keeper Joshua da Silva first shared a 49-run stand with Alzarri Joseph for the 8th wicket. Joseph was dismissed by Craig Overton on a personal score of 28 and showed the way to the pavilion.
After this Silva got support from Kimar Roach and both the players remained at the crease till the end of the day. Silva returned unbeaten on 54 off 152 balls and Roach made 25 off 63 balls. The partnership of 55 runs has been made between the two players for the 9th wicket.
For England, Chris Woakes took three wickets during this period, while Overton and Ben Stokes got 2-2 wickets in the account. On the third day, Windies will be eyeing to consolidate the lead, while England would like to wrap up the hosts soon.
