Now there is news that Tesla owner Elon Musk can make a deal with Reliance to bring his company to India. Hindu BusinessLine has quoted sources as saying that Tesla is discussing a possible joint venture with Reliance Industries to set up a manufacturing facility in India. Sources told the newspaper that discussions have been going on for more than a month in the initial stage and the initiative should not be interpreted as Reliance Industries’ entry into the automobile sector. The source said Reliance’s aim in the joint venture is to develop electric vehicle capabilities in India.
Tesla desperate to bring its car to India
Tesla CEO Elon Musk had said on April 9 that it would be a natural progression for Tesla to make electric vehicles available in India. Musk’s statement came amid reports of Tesla looking for a location to set up a factory in India. Musk had said on Twitter, ‘India is now the most populous country in the world. India should have electric cars like every other country. This is a natural progression to make Tesla electric cars available in India.
There will be investment of 2 to 3 billion dollars
According to reports by news agency ANI, sources indicated that Maharashtra and Gujarat have made attractive land offers to Tesla to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing facility. Apart from this, Telangana government is also discussing to give land to Tesla. There will be an investment of about 2 to 3 billion dollars in Tesla’s proposed facility. It aims to meet the demand for Tesla’s electric vehicles both in India and abroad.
Tesla car will come to India at the end of the year
Earlier this month, Reuters quoted sources as saying that the company has started production of right hand drive vehicles at its facility in Germany. The cars are due to be exported to India later this year, signaling Tesla’s progress toward a potential entry into the world’s third-largest vehicle market. The agency had also said that a Tesla delegation may visit India in late April to assess potential locations for a domestic car manufacturing facility. The Indian government had announced a new EV policy earlier this year. It offered low import duty for EVs, opening the way for companies like Tesla to come to India.
