Expansion
Team India has won the last match of the ODI series between India and New Zealand women’s team by six wickets. The Indian team had also lost the series after losing the first four matches of the series, but winning the last match has given good signs before the World Cup. The best part for India is that the team’s most important players Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur have returned to form. The good performance of these two players is very important for the victory of Team India.
In the fifth ODI, New Zealand had set a target of 252 runs in front of India. Team India chased down the target in 46 overs for the loss of four wickets. This is India’s only win on this tour of New Zealand.
Good performance by spin bowlers
In this match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first. The Kiwis got off to a decent start. In the first 10 overs, New Zealand had scored 49 runs for the loss of one wicket. After this, India’s spin bowlers bowled skimply and also took wickets from time to time. Due to this, the New Zealand team could not form a big partnership and scored 251 runs in 50 overs for the loss of nine wickets.
Amelia Kerr scored the highest 66 runs for New Zealand. Apart from them, captain Sophie Devine scored 34, Lauren and Jensen scored 30 each. Gaikwad, Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana took two wickets each for India. While Poonam Yadav and Meghna Singh got one wicket each.
Mandhana and Harman won
Chasing the target of 252 runs, India’s start was not very special and the first wicket had fallen for 29 runs. After this, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma laid the foundation for India’s victory by making a century partnership. Mandhana was dismissed for 71 runs off 84 balls. While Sharma scored 21 runs off 41 balls. After this, Harmanpreet Kaur scored 63 off 66 balls and captain Mithali Raj played an excellent innings of 57 runs in 66 balls to take India to victory. In the end, Richa Ghosh scored seven runs in eight balls.
Four bowlers, including Amelika Kerr, took one wicket each for New Zealand, but could not stop the Indian team from winning.
India will face Pakistan in the World Cup
India’s first match in the Women’s World Cup is against Pakistan. Team India will start its campaign with this match to be held on March 6. After this, there will be matches against teams like hosts New Zealand, West Indies, England and Australia. In the last World Cup, the Indian team was defeated in the final match, but this time it would like to come back after registering a win.
