US President Joe Biden has appointed Indian-origin doctor Ashish Jha as his top advisor on the coronavirus pandemic. It was later said by the White House that Jha, the new coordinator of the COVID-19 response in the USA, has a good knowledge of dealing with the epidemic.
Announcing the appointment of Dr. Jha, Biden said that he will be the new White House response coordinator on COVID-19 and he is America’s leading health expert.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in a press briefing on Thursday that Dr Jha has good knowledge of handling the pandemic. In a statement, 51-year-old Jha said he would be very clear with the American people and share clear information about COVID-19.
Neil Makhija, executive director of Impact, an organization that advocates for Indian-Americans, said the appointment of Jha was the right decision for public safety. Jha understands how important role the government plays in tackling Covid in the country and the world.
Jha is currently the Dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University. He will replace Jeffrey Ziants. The term of the Indian-American doctor will begin on April 5.
