Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested 15 accused of mobile tower gang.
Whatever this gang did with the mobile towers, emergency services were shut down.
New Delhi. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a big gang that stole the radio remote unit of a mobile tower. Two gang leaders and their 13 associates have been arrested. The accused include mobile tower technicians and scrap dealers working in a renowned telecommunication company. Together they have committed more than 250 thefts so far. Delhi Police Crime Branch team recovered mobile tower equipment, 33 RRU, 20 BBU, 15 Jio power batteries, 20 bundled cables, 2 RSP, radio units worth more than Rs 1.5 crore.
After these important parts of the towers were stolen, calls to emergency services did not go through, due to which people around the towers faced problems. According to the Crime Branch, 63 cases of theft of mobile tower equipment were detected in Delhi NCR. Crime Branch teams have arrested a total of 15 accused in different operations. With the arrest of these accused, a total of 33 RRUs (Radio Remote Units with very high cost), 20 BBUs, 15 JIO batteries, two RSP cards, 12 hi-tech hardware/software equipment and 20 bundled tower cables have been recovered and in Delhi-NCR. 17 cases of recorded theft have been revealed. A Ford Figo car and a scooter involved in the crime have also been recovered.
The mobile company had complained
In fact, National Nodal Officer of Airtel reported theft of a large number of RRUs, BBUs and related items from mobile towers installed in different parts of the country. Due to theft of these expensive parts, customers were facing problems in making calls and using internet services. According to the Crime Branch, in this case, two people were operating this gang, their names are Nazim and Salman. It was revealed that they used to purchase stolen RRU/BBU from different people in different states and hide them in their warehouse located in Rohini, Delhi. After this they used to sell these goods to other people at higher prices.

Gang’s warehouse was in Rohini
Inspector Shivraj Bisht of the crime branch team had received input that a person named Sunny Rajput would come to Uttam Nagar metro station with RRU parts stolen from the mobile tower. After which, under the supervision of DCP Amit Goyal and ACP Ramesh Lamba, a team was formed and Sunny and Salman were caught by laying a trap. He was interrogated after which Salman’s shop in Rohini was raided, from where many stolen expensive mobile tower parts were recovered.
Arrests made from UP also
Then during the interrogation of Salman, a young man named Nazim was caught from Muzaffarnagar in UP, who was a scrap dealer. After which he was interrogated and many names came up one after the other. During investigation, accused Nazim revealed that he used to sell the stolen RRU/BBU to Nadeem and Izhar and his brother Mohammad Naeem. Apart from this, on the behest of Nazim, Mohammad Naeem was arrested from Mustafabad and on the behest of accused Mohammad Naeem, 6 RRUs and 12 BBUs and 5 batteries of JIO company were recovered.
Used to steal valuable parts of mobile tower
Then the crime branch interrogated the accused. During interrogation, accused Sunny Rajput revealed that he is an employee of Airtel company and is expert in installing and uninstalling RRU and BBU. He, along with his other employees Mahendra, Morpal, Irfan, used to steal RRU/BBU along with line cables installed on different mobile network towers in Delhi, so that he could easily earn huge amount.
