Is addiction to online games ruining children? Expert listed 5 symptoms which if not recognized in time, you will lose your child.

Recently a sad incident has come to light from Ghaziabad. Three minor sisters committed suicide together due to their addiction to online gaming. After this incident, the debate has once again started on how deep an impact online gaming is having on the minds of children. There was a time when such games were considered a way to pass time, but now they can become a deadly addiction for children. To understand this matter in detail, we talked to Monica Sharma, a senior psychologist from New Delhi. Let us know what the experts’ opinion is on this entire issue.

What is the expert’s opinion?
According to experts, playing too many games can have a negative impact on the mental health of children. This may cause changes in their behavior, sleep problems and stress. Furthermore, children start becoming distant from the real world, and gradually lose interest in studies, friends and family. Not only this, it has such a deep impact on the child’s mind that they are unable to tolerate defeat or failure.

Why do children become addicted to online games?
The use of mobile phones has increased significantly since the Covid-19 pandemic. Especially children have started using the digital world rapidly. There are many elements in online games that attract children. Due to their young age, their understanding is raw, hence they easily get trapped in this trap.

Symptoms of gaming addiction in children:
Behavior: Becomes extremely angry or aggressive when stopped from playing games.
Health: Insomnia, dark circles under the eyes, weight gain and change in eating habits.
Studies: Continuous decline in school results and not doing homework.
Social isolation: Stopping meeting friends and staying confined to one’s room.
Emotional distress: frequent crying, feeling worthless, or talking about ending one’s life.

What should parents do?
According to experts, being strict with children is not the right way to get rid of this addiction. By doing this children may become rebellious or go on the wrong path. So, instead of stopping them, explain lovingly and gradually set deadlines. Encourage children to participate in outdoor games and exercise. If you feel that your child is going into depression or there has been a significant change in his behavior, then immediately consult a psychologist.
