Method of breaking fast on Karva Chauth
Karva Chauth puja is mainly performed in the evening after sunset. For the puja, the north-east corner of the house should be thoroughly cleaned, a wooden plank should be laid and an idol, picture or photograph of Lord Shiva, Goddess Gauri and Lord Ganesha should be placed on it. Karva Chauth puja calendars are also available in the market, on which pictures of all the gods and goddesses are made. After installing the deities, place a pitcher or jug filled with water in the north direction of the pate and put some rice in it. Apply roli and rice tilak on the lota and tie a sacred thread around the neck of the lota. Some people also place a clay idol of Goddess Gauri or a betel nut wrapped in a sacred thread in front of the Lota.

After placing the pitcher, worship Goddess Gauri and offer vermilion to her. Utensils made of sugar also have great importance in worship on this day. Some people also keep an earthen pot. Today take four puris and four laddus from three different places. Keep one part on a water vessel, the second part on a clay or sugar vessel and the third part women should tie in their saree or chunni pallu during the puja. At some places, sweet puri is also offered instead of puri and laddu. You can choose as per your tradition.

Now light a ghee lamp in front of the Goddess and read the story of Karva Chauth. After the puja, wear the pallu of your saree and feed the prasad kept on the karwa to your son or husband and feed the prasad kept on the karwa to the cow. Leave the karva filled with remaining water at the place of worship. When the moon comes out at night, offer water from this bowl to the moon and offer whatever you have prepared at home.

After offering Arghya, look at the moon and your husband’s face through a sieve. Then, take water from your husband’s hand and touch his feet. Finally, break your fast with the Prasad kept in the plate. After breaking the fast, you can eat home cooked food.
