West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday filed her nomination as Trinamool Congress candidate from Bhawanipur seat. Before filing nomination, CM Mamata led a foot march. During this period a large number of TMC leaders and workers were present. After filing her nomination, Mamata Banerjee said, “I appeal to the people to ensure TMC’s victory not just in Bhawanipur, but on all the 294 seats in Bengal. Mamta walked 800 meters to file nomination
When Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left from her residence in Kalighat to file nomination papers, a huge crowd of supporters was present with her. With folded hands in her usual style, Mamata Banerjee greeted the party workers and supporters standing in queues on both sides of the road. During this, she walked about 800 meters to reach Alipore Survey Building where she filed her nomination papers.
Mamta Banerjee will compete with Shubhendu Adhikari
Mamta Banerjee, who has been MLA from Bhawanipur three times, will face BJP candidate Shubhendu Adhikari. Shubhendu Adhikari had filed his nomination from this seat last week in the presence of senior leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this time he also demonstrated political power. The battle for Bhawanipur has become a battle of prestige and the constituency has become the symbolic center of the 2026 assembly elections.
People of all religions live here
The constituency has a large Marwari, Gujarati, Punjabi, Sikh and Jain population, apart from Bengali middle-class families. Besides, a large Muslim population also resides in the area. According to the data, about 42 percent of the voters in Bhawanipur are Bengali Hindus, 34 percent are non-Bengali Hindus and about 24 percent are Muslims. About three-fourths of the voters of Bhawanipur are Hindus. Political parties often describe Bhawanipur as ‘Mini India’.
