Karva Chauth fast is observed every year in the month of Kartik. This year Karva Chauth will be celebrated on Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Consuming water and fruits – The fast of Karva Chauth is observed without water. One should not consume water or fruits from sunrise till offering Arghya to the moon and completing the puja. Doing this may break the fast.
Quarrel – The fast of Karva Chauth is considered a symbol of love and marital happiness. One should honor and respect one’s husband on this day. On the day of Karva Chauth, husband and wife should not quarrel with each other or use abusive words.
Avoid donation – Donating white items on the day of Karva Chauth is also considered inauspicious. Therefore, it is better to avoid donating white clothes, milk, curd, sugar, rice and sweets.
Breaking the fast before moonrise – On the day of Karva Chauth, the fast should be broken only after offering water to the moon. Break the fast by drinking water from your husband’s hands. Breaking the fast before this does not yield any auspicious results.
Color of clothes – Neither husband nor wife should wear black clothes on the day of Karva Chauth. It is believed that wearing black clothes on any auspicious occasion can give inauspicious results. However, wearing red, pink and yellow colored clothes or makeup on this day is considered extremely auspicious.
Sleeping during the day – According to beliefs, sleeping during the day during fast is considered inauspicious. So, if you are fasting, try to avoid sleeping during the day.
Makeup items – On the day of Karva Chauth, married women should not share any item related to their wedding or makeup with anyone. Donating makeup items should also be avoided on this day.
Use of sharp objects – Use of needle, scissors, knife or any sharp object on the day of Karva Chauth is considered inauspicious. Sewing or embroidery is also prohibited on this day.
