When the world champion was defeated: Gama Pehalwan is said to have not lost any wrestling till date. He also defeated a man named Stanislaus Zbyszko from Poland, the then world champion, in wrestling in England. Gama Pehalwan won several titles during his career, including the Indian version of the World Heavyweight Championship in 1910 and the World Wrestling Championship in 1927. By the year 1947, Gama Pehalwan had illuminated the name of India in the whole world with his talent. However, at the time of India-Pakistan partition, Gama Pehalwan moved to Lahore with his family and saved the lives of many Hindu families in the violence of that time.
Died at the age of 82: Gama Pehalwan remained in Pakistan at the time of partition. In Pakistan, the government there did not pay attention to Gama Pehalwan, after which he used to live with money crunch in his last days. Gama Pehalwan died in 1960 at the age of 82. Gama Pehalwan is also known as ‘Rustom-e-Hind’.
