Agartala, May 1 (). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working sincerely for the development of women in all fields, with women’s safety being a major priority.

Taking part in the discussion on a resolution on reservation for women in the state Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister’s goal is the real empowerment of women. He alleged that opposition opposition has repeatedly hindered progress, including delays in passing previous versions of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament.

Highlighting the legal developments, he said Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy introduced a proposal titled ‘131st Constitution Amendment Bill’, also known as ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. The purpose of this bill is to ensure 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

He said, “For this, I wholeheartedly welcome them. I believe that this amendment is a strong step towards the empowerment of women in India. Almost everyone participated in the discussion on this issue in the House. I am confident that all members will support the 131st Amendment Bill of the Constitution. I express my gratitude to the Leader of the Opposition and other members, including members of the ruling party, who took part in today’s discussion.”

The Chief Minister said that there was a constructive and detailed discussion on the issue in the Assembly. However, he also said that it has become a habit for the opposition to oppose bills introduced in Parliament, and this case was no different.

Giving further clarification, Saha said that the delimitation will be done on the basis of population rather than geographical area. He stressed that this process would not result in any reduction in seats in the southern or north-eastern states, as it is governed by constitutional provisions.

During his address, the Chief Minister also accused the opposition of trying to mislead the public.
