Washington, May 1 (). US President Donald Trump has congratulated Ali al-Zaidi on his nomination as the next Prime Minister of Iraq.
Rapid Response 47, the official White House handle The beginning of a new chapter, prosperity, stability and unprecedented success, hearty congratulations to you, Ali.
Iraq’s newly elected president on April 27 named businessman Ali al-Zaidi as the country’s prime ministerial candidate, as he received the support of the country’s main Shia coalition.
President Nizar Amede has entrusted the responsibility of forming a new government to Ali al-Zaidi, the candidate of the largest parliamentary faction. The announcement came shortly after Zaidi was named as its candidate by the Coordination Framework, a coalition of Shia factions with various ties to Iran that had previously nominated Maliki.
But, US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum changed the situation. In January, Trump threatened to cut off all aid to Iraq if Maliki, a two-time former prime minister with close ties to Iran, returned to power.
On Monday the coordination framework praised the “historic and responsible stance” taken by Maliki and acting Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in withdrawing their candidacies.
