The first deadly wave of COVID in India occurred during September-November 2020. The peak of the first wave was with a maximum of 98 thousand patients in a day, after which the number of infected people started gradually decreasing and the first wave ended. But, the second wave of COVID started in March 2021 which proved to be many times deadlier than the first wave. In this post we will know 8 reasons for the deadly second wave of COVID in India.

1. Negligence of people

After the first wave of Corona subsided, people started being careless about safety from Corona. People reduced COVID appropriate behavior like wearing masks, washing hands frequently and maintaining two yard distance. Due to this, Corona virus started spreading rapidly and the country was hit by the second wave.

2. Government’s overconfidence and false statements

When the vaccine became available in the country, many ministers of the Government of India announced from various national and international forums that India had won over Corona. Due to these statements also the country had to face the second deadly wave of COVID.

3. Vaccine War

With the start of vaccine production in India, a kind of vaccine war was seen. Vaccine producing companies described their company’s vaccine as better than others and gave statements related to it. Besides, some politicians also made misrepresentations for political gain, which created confusion among the people. As a result, the country is facing the second wave of Corona.

4. Election rallies

During the Corona period, due to holding of assembly elections in 5 states and organizing election rallies without masks and without social distancing, Corona spread very rapidly in the country. Leaders of all parties kept gathering more and more crowds in election rallies, due to which the infection kept increasing.

5. Organizing Kumbh

The organization of Kumbh Mela during the Corona period also contributed to the spread of Corona, due to which India is facing the second deadly wave of COVID.

6. Unlock process

The lockdown imposed during the first wave was opened in a hurry without proper preparation. All those programs and ceremonies due to which there was a fear of Corona spread were also allowed. Covid appropriate practices were not followed at these sites which led to the second wave.

7. Double mutant virus

Apart from human factors, the growth of coronavirus is one of the major reasons for the second wave. Scientists have detected several mutations in SARS-COV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Due to lack of genome sequencing, the infectiousness could not be detected properly and a second deadly wave occurred.

8. Migration of workers

Migration of workers during the Corona period also played an important role in the spread of the virus and the virus spread from one place to another. This was also one of the reasons for the deadly second wave of COVID.
