Players' salary may increase in IPL, will the retention rules also change? Know which issues were discussed in the meeting

New DelhiRecently, the franchises of every team (IPL Franchise) met the IPL officials. During this time, many important issues were discussed. Issues like salary increment, mega auction and RTM were discussed in the meeting. One of these was also the increase in the salary of the players. Many franchises have talked about increasing the salary of the players in their suggestions.

The salary cap of players can be increased to 130-140 crores for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The salary cap for the 2022 mega auction was Rs 90 crore. Which can be increased before the next season. According to the Times of India report, many franchises have demanded to increase the salary of the players in one of their suggestions given to BCCI and IPL CEO Hemang Amin.

A franchise official was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “Under the current rule, a player’s salary cannot be increased by the franchise after he is bought in the IPL auction. For example, suppose a player is bought for Rs 30 lakh and his IPL performance has been excellent, then the franchise should have the right to give him a contract of up to Rs 3 crore for the next year.”

The report also said that some teams want that they should be allowed to retain not only 3 or 4 players but a total of 8 players. In the 2022 auction, every team was allowed to retain 4 players. Now it will be interesting to see what happens in the auction. It remains to be seen what things the IPL officials implement.
