AAP supremo Kejriwal gets Lutyens Delhi bungalow, likely to shift around Diwali

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will move into his new residence at 95, Lodhi Estate Bungalow around Diwali, provided the renovation work is completed by then. Party sources gave this information on Tuesday.

Earlier, the party had said that he has accepted the central house allotment and will soon shift to a new bungalow with his family, more than a year after resigning as Delhi Chief Minister.

Kejriwal, being the head of a national party, is entitled to a central government bungalow.

AAP’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda told PTI-Video, “After the Delhi High Court’s rebuke, Kejriwal has been allotted an official bungalow by the central government. Since he is the convener of a national party, he was entitled to the bungalow.

According to a Central Public Works Department (CPWD) official, the bungalow will be handed over to the allottee after the renovation is completed.

Kejriwal will be the neighbor of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in his new bungalow. Earlier a former Indian Police Service officer lived in this bungalow.

Last month, the Delhi High Court had pulled up the Center for the delay in allotting a residence to Kejriwal in the national capital.

While Kejriwal was the Chief Minister, he lived in 6, Flag Staff Road residence, Civil Lines.

The BJP had made it a major election issue in Delhi, calling the residence ‘Sheeshmahal’ and vowing that the Chief Minister from the party would not live there if the BJP government was formed in Delhi.

After resigning from the post of Chief Minister, Kejriwal started living in the government bungalow allotted to AAP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal.

In the year 2022, the Vigilance Department of Delhi Government has appointed Lieutenant Governor V.K. On the instructions of Saxena, the Public Works Department started an investigation into allegations of ‘irregularities’ in the renovation of the bungalow located in Civil Lines.

Currently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case on the complaint of the then leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta, which was given to Saxena in December 2024.
