Kolkata, June 14 (IANS). West Bengal CID officials on Sunday interrogated Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee for about eight and a half hours in connection with the signature mismatch in the Assembly.
Banerjee left the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan at around 8.20 pm. By then, Kunal Ghosh, Trinamool Congress MLA from Beleghata, had also left Bhavani Bhavan after nearly four hours of questioning.
After coming out of the CID headquarters, Ghosh said that he has cooperated in the investigation. He also told that in connection with the signature mismatch case in the Assembly, CID officials had made Abhishek Banerjee sit face to face and interrogated him.
However, Kunal Ghosh did not make any further comment after leaving the CID headquarters. From there he went straight to the residence of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat.
Before going to Mamata Banerjee’s house, Ghosh said that I am a witness in this case. I have cooperated in the investigation. I have done whatever I was asked to do.
About an hour later, Abhishek Banerjee also left the CID headquarters after being interrogated for more than eight and a half hours.
Abhishek Banerjee had reached the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhawan on Sunday afternoon for another round of questioning in the signature mismatch case in the Assembly.
CID had asked Banerjee to appear before noon. However, Trinamool Congress MPs reached the CID office before the scheduled time.
The Calcutta High Court had directed Banerjee to cooperate in the investigation of the Intelligence Department of the state police in this case. The court had also said that CID will not take any strict action against him for the next two weeks.
Banerjee’s car reached the CID office at around 11:43 am on Sunday. He first went to the reception, where he showed his identity card and signed the attendance register before entering the office.
Security was beefed up at the Bhawani Bhawan complex, and additional state police forces and central forces were deployed in the area. Despite Sunday being a holiday, the CID officer had reached the office early in the morning.
Earlier, Banerjee had appeared before CID officials for questioning in the same case last Thursday (June 11). That day he was interrogated for about five and a half hours.
