This morning brought a very sad and shocking news for the politics of Maharashtra. State Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has died untimely in an unfortunate plane crash in Baramati. Meanwhile, President Draupadi Murmu also expressed condolences while Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and remembered him as a mass leader who had a deep touch at the grassroots level.

President Draupadi Murmu shared an ex-post saying that Ajit Pawar’s untimely demise is an “irreparable loss” for the country.

He wrote, “The news of the demise of many people including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajit Pawar in the plane crash in Baramati, Maharashtra is extremely sad. Ajit Pawar ji’s untimely demise is an irreparable loss. He will always be remembered for his special contribution to the development of Maharashtra, especially in the cooperative sector.I express my deepest condolences to his family, supporters and fans.May God give strength to the families of all those who lost their lives in this accident to bear this shock.”

In a post on Twitter, the Prime Minister said Pawar is widely respected in Maharashtra for his hard work and dedication to public service. He highlighted Pawar’s strong hold on administrative matters and his commitment to empowering the poor and the underprivileged.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday condoled the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, saying he was deeply distressed by the sad news and praised Pawar’s decades-long dedication to public service.

In a post on X, Shah said Pawar’s contribution to the welfare of every section of Maharashtra society in the last three and a half decades is beyond words. Recalling their meetings, he said Pawar always discussed in detail the issues affecting the people of the state.

Amit Shah wrote on Twitter, “Today, my heart is saddened by the news of the demise of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and our senior NDA ally Ajit Pawar ji in a tragic accident. The way Ajit Pawar ji dedicated himself to the welfare of every section of the society of Maharashtra in the last three and a half decades cannot be expressed in words. Whenever we met, he used to discuss at length on various issues related to the welfare of the people of Maharashtra. His demise is not only for the NDA family but also for me. is also a personal loss.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on Twitter, “The news of Ajit Pawar’s tragic demise in the plane crash is extremely shocking and extremely sad. This is the untimely demise of a leader whose political career was long and bright. It is impossible to express in words the immense grief that the bereaved family must be going through in this difficult time.”

The Congress president wrote, “I express my deepest condolences to the entire Pawar family, their supporters and well-wishers. Ajit Pawar, who served the people of Maharashtra in various constitutional positions, will be remembered as a seasoned politician who discharged his responsibilities towards his people with honesty and wisdom. May his soul rest in peace.”

Rahul Gandhi expressed grief over the death of Ajit Pawar and four others on board when a chartered flight from Mumbai to Baramati crashed this morning.

The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote on X,“The news of the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar ji in a plane crash is extremely sad. In this hour of grief, I stand with the people of Maharashtra. In this hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to the Pawar family and their loved ones.”

This morning, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “I express my condolences to the entire Pawar family and their supporters. I have spoken to Ajit Pawar’s wife and Supriya ji (Supriya Sule).”

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant on Wednesday condoled the news of the sad demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Ajit Pawar died in a charter plane crash in Brahmati this morning.

“This is very sad news,” Sawant said, adding that the entire Pawar family is shocked by the news.

“I always listened to him. He was a courageous man. He had a big role in the development of the Baramati region. I express my deepest condolences to the Pawar family,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said.

Ajit Pawar was the nephew of veteran politician and NCP founder Sharad Pawar and cousin of Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule.

Most of the MPs were present in the national capital to attend the budget session of Parliament, which begins today.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “This is extremely shocking, sad and heart-wrenching. We have had our differences, but we have worked together. The small charter plane, which took off from Mumbai around 8 am, crashed 45 minutes later while attempting to land near Baramati airport. Pictures obtained from the crash site show fire and smoke coming from the wreckage of the plane. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that all five passengers on board the plane died in the accident.

The Maharashtra government said in a statement that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and received information and updates about the plane crash.

Krantikari Samajwadi Party MP NK Premachandran said, “It is very sad to hear the news of such an accident. We do not have complete information, so let’s wait for the report and see what actually happened. This is really shocking and very unfortunate incident. The Deputy Chief Minister and his team were traveling in a plane and this accident happened. It should be investigated, let’s wait for the report.”

DMK MP T. Siva said, “It is very sad. I have no words to express my condolences. He was a very energetic politician.”

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy condoled the death, saying, “This is extremely shocking and sad news. I express my condolences to his family.”

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “This is an extremely unfortunate incident. There are reports that Ajit Pawar was also on board the plane. If it is true, then it is an extremely unfortunate day. It is a heart-wrenching incident. May God give strength to the families of the victims. He was not only the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra but also a well-known politician of the country. Top political leaders from across India, including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Dhivkumar, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekara and Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Brar expressed deep condolences on the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the plane crash near the runway of Baramati airport on Wednesday morning.

Pawar was on his way to attend a public meeting in Baramati for the Zilla Parishad elections when his plane crashed. Pawar was in Mumbai on Tuesday, where he attended the meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet’s Committee on Infrastructure chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and other officials were also present.

Ajit Pawar has been the longest serving Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, not holding the post for two consecutive terms. He held the post of Deputy Chief Minister six times in different governments.

He has served as Deputy Chief Minister in the cabinets of Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. His wife’s name is Sunitra Pawar, with whom he has two sons – Jai and Parth Pawar.
