Andhra Pradesh coalition government made Governor lie in Assembly: YSRCP

Amravati, February 11 (IANS). The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh has alleged that the TDP-led coalition government under Governor S. Abdul Nazir was called a “lie” in the assembly.

Reacting to the Governor’s address at the joint sitting of both the Houses on the first day of the budget session of the state Assembly, YSRCP MLAs said the speech was full of lies, exaggerated figures, baseless allegations and deliberate distortion of facts.

YSRCP MLA Tatiparthi Chandrashekhar said the Governor’s address was like a compilation of news from “yellow media”. He was referring to pro-TDP media organizations.

Speaking to the media, some YSRCP MLAs and Legislative Council members (MLCs) accused the coalition government of not giving the party the status of main opposition. He said that the government is afraid of its failures being exposed.

Party president and former chief minister Y.S. YSRCP MLAs and MLCs led by Jagan Mohan Reddy were present in the House when the Governor began his speech. They tried to disrupt the Governor’s address by raising slogans against the government. After protesting for a few minutes, he walked out of the House.

MLA Chandrashekhar said that the Chandrababu Naidu government, which calls itself a visionary, has strange priorities and does not have concrete achievements. He alleged that the government is afraid that YSRCP will corner it on public issues.

He said the 164-member coalition government is unable to face the 11 YSRCP MLAs and that is why the party is not being given opposition status.

Chandrashekhar said that the party is ready to participate in the assembly if YSRCP is given the status of Leader of Opposition. He demanded the Governor’s intervention in this matter.

He alleged that in 20 months, the government has plunged the state into debt of about Rs 3.27 lakh crore, while it is claiming wealth creation and misleading the public with announcements like aerospace, electronics and quantum city.

He further said that while the government is talking of reconstruction and development, it is blaming the YSRCP for destruction, whereas the previous TDP government had left only about Rs 100 crore in the treasury. In contrast, the YSRCP government successfully ran welfare and development programs for five years and fulfilled its promises without corruption.

He alleged that the present coalition government, despite promising wealth creation, was weakening the state’s financial position, rapidly increasing debt and focusing on real estate in Amaravati and land allotment in Visakhapatnam instead of genuine development.
