Azamgarh, July 9 (IANS). In Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh, the police has arrested a youth accused in a murder case within 24 hours. Officials said the police team arrested the accused after an encounter on Thursday morning. An illegal .315 bore pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle have been recovered from his possession.
According to Azamgarh Police, there was a wedding ceremony in Dandwal village of Mehnajpur police station area of Azamgarh district on the night of July 7-8. There was a dispute between two youths over food at the function, which turned violent after some time. Attacks with sticks started from both sides.
Pritosh Rajbhar was seriously injured during the fight. He died during treatment. Officials said that taking prompt action in this serious case, Mehnajpur police station arrested the main accused within 24 hours.
Officials said that on July 9, the police team tried to stop a suspected accused, but the accused tried to escape. During this time, when he was surrounded, he opened fire on the police team. The police team retaliated in self-defense. Then the accused was shot in the leg, due to which he fell. Later he was arrested.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to attacking Pritosh Rajbhar with sticks during a dispute over food at a wedding ceremony with his associates. Officials said that the injured accused has been sent to the hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered against the accused under various sections including murder, firing on police, Arms Act and further legal action has been started. According to the police, several criminal cases are already registered against the accused. Police officials said that strict action against criminals is continuing in the district.
