Bhubaneswar, July 21 (IANS). Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Tuesday called for better inter-state coordination, modern technology and intelligence-based joint strategy to deal with internal security threats spreading beyond state borders.
Khurania said this while addressing the inaugural session of the high-level meeting of the Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee 2026 held in Bhubaneswar.
The meeting, chaired by Odisha DGP, was attended by DGPs of Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, Central Armed Police Forces, Central Police Organizations and other senior police officers.
This meeting was organized under the auspices of the Union Home Ministry. Its objective was to strengthen coordination among states to effectively deal with organized crime, left wing extremism and other emerging security challenges.
Welcoming the delegates attending the meeting, Khurania expressed his gratitude to the Home Ministry for entrusting the responsibility of hosting this important regional coordination meeting to Odisha Police. He said that such joint platforms play an important role in better coordination between police agencies, mutual trust and strengthening the internal security system of the country.
He said that modern security challenges like organized crime, cyber crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and left wing extremism are not limited to the boundaries of any one state, hence a technology based, intelligence based and coordinated strategy is needed to deal with them.
Odisha DGP said that no state alone can effectively face these challenges. He described frequent intelligence sharing, rapid exchange of information, use of modern technology and close cooperation among states as the need of the hour.
According to the official statement, many important strategic issues were discussed in detail in the day-long meeting. These included monitoring and rehabilitation of surrendered Left Wing Extremists, curbing inter-state drug trafficking, sharing real-time intelligence to combat cyber crime, timely transfer and investigation of zero FIRs, strengthening railway security and formulating a joint strategy to deal with the challenge of illegal infiltration.
Joint operations against criminal gangs operating between states, strengthening policing in border areas and promoting technology-based intelligence policing were also discussed in the meeting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania expressed confidence that the decisions and suggestions taken in this meeting will play an important role in enhancing cooperation among the states, strengthening law and order, strengthening national security and effectively dealing with the complex security challenges of Eastern India.
