BJD attacks law and order in Odisha, makes serious allegations against government

Bhubaneswar, June 27 (IANS). Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sulta Dev on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the state government over the law and order situation in Odisha. He alleged that the incidents of crime are continuously increasing in the state and an atmosphere of insecurity has been created among the common people. He demanded the government to strengthen law and order and conduct impartial investigations into serious cases.

Speaking to IANS, Sulta Dev said that the law and order situation in Odisha has become very worrying. He claimed that in the last 26 months, such incidents have been seen in the state, which were not seen before for a long time. According to him, incidents like snatching, mob lynching, firing, murder in broad daylight, rape of women and children are continuously coming to light, due to which there is an atmosphere of fear among the people.

The Rajya Sabha MP also mentioned the incident of two non-Odia hardcore prisoners escaping from jail in the year 2025. He said that at that time he had expressed apprehension of collusion on a large scale in this case, but his views were not taken seriously. Now their suspicions have been strengthened after a BJP MP alleged the involvement of jail officials.

Sulta Dev alleged that CCTV footage in this case is not being made public and many important documents are also not available. According to him, this raises questions on the transparency of the investigation and it appears that there may be collusion at many levels in the entire matter. He said that if accountability of the concerned officers is not fixed, people’s trust in the administration will weaken.

He said that Biju Janata Dal has been demanding from the beginning to register an FIR in this case, identify the accused and conduct an impartial investigation. He said that in such cases, it is necessary to take timely action and take strict action against the culprits, so that the rule of law is maintained and such incidents are not repeated in future.
