Guwahati, May 8 (IANS). Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Friday thanked the people of his Dhemaji assembly constituency for electing him and said the BJP’s landslide victory in the state assembly elections reflects the growing trust and confidence of the people in the alliance and its leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Pegu said that he was extremely grateful to the public for the confidence reposed in him and assured that he would continue to work for the development of the constituency and the welfare of the residents in the next five years.
He said that I heartily thank the people of my constituency for electing me. I consider it not only gratitude but also a responsibility and duty. In the coming years, I will work for the development of the constituency and provide various services to the public.
Referring to the performance of the National Democratic Alliance, Pegu said that the prospects of the alliance in Assam have become quite strong and he said that there is a strong possibility of the swearing-in of the new Council of Ministers on May 12.
He said the BJP-led alliance will hold the first legislature party meeting after the arrival of the party’s central observers on May 10, in which the legislature party leader will be elected.
Ranoj Pegu said that the elected leader of the assembly party will become the Chief Minister. It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister to form the Council of Ministers. However, there is already widespread expectation among the public that former Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again take over as the Chief Minister.
On the question of ministerial posts, the senior BJP leader said that this issue should not be considered the most important aspect of governance.
He said that not everyone can become a minister in the 126-member assembly. It is a complex process in which representation of various communities and groups is also taken into account. Becoming a minister is not the biggest issue. We have always worked as Assam team and every MLA has an important role.
