Case of racial abuse of girls: Delhi Police arrests accused couple in Malviya Nagar

New Delhi, February 25 (IANS). Delhi Police has arrested the accused couple in a case related to racial abuse and insult against three girls from Arunachal Pradesh in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. Delhi Police officials gave this information on Wednesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain. These arrests took place five days after the incident. “The case is being investigated by an ACP-rank officer. The investigation is ongoing and senior officers are keeping a close watch on it,” officials said.

It is alleged that three girls from Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly racially abused by their neighbours, Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain, in Malviya Nagar. Insulted and threatened them.

Actually, on February 20, there was a fight over repair work in the rented flat. The girls had called an electrician to install an air conditioner in their fourth floor flat. After this the neighbors allegedly abused the girls.

According to the police, dust and debris from the drilling work fell on the floor below, leading to objection from the neighbours, after which the matter rapidly deteriorated. The girls alleged that a neighboring couple abused them and made derogatory and racial comments targeting them and the North-Eastern community. A purported video of the incident later went viral on social media.

Delhi Police said that an FIR has been registered against the couple under different sections.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday strongly condemned the alleged racial and indecent abuse of three girls from the state in South Delhi. He requested the Delhi Police Commissioner to take quick and strict action in the matter. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya had also criticized the incident.
