Guwahati, March 29 (IANS). Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the election promises of Congress. He alleged that the opposition party had merely copied the welfare schemes implemented by the BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a post on social media platform
Taking aim at the opposition, he questioned the credibility of Congress and said that for the last five years, Congress has been accusing the BJP government of creating beneficiaries by taking loans.
Hazarika asked why now instead of presenting an alternative plan, they were promising to continue with the same plans he had once criticized. Why should voters trust such a lazy and hypocritical attitude?
He also raised doubts over the financial feasibility of Congress’s promises and said that the party has failed to explain how it will raise funds for these schemes if it comes to power. He said that the chances of Congress forming the government are almost nil, but even if it happens, how will they raise money for these guarantees? Will Assam be pushed into a situation like Himachal Pradesh?
The minister also mentioned the BJP’s commitment to take back 5 lakh bighas of encroached land, highlighting a major difference between the BJP and the Congress.
Hazarika alleged that the Congress had deliberately shied away from the issue because of its vote bank politics, and claimed that illegal encroachers were the party’s main support base.
Claiming public support for the BJP’s governance model, he said it is clear in the Congress manifesto itself that there is no alternative to the BJP’s vision of a developed and secure Assam.
