Amravati, May 26 (IANS). Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has once again been accused of ignoring the case of Sugli Preeti, a Class 10 student who was raped and murdered in a private school in Kurnool in 2017.
The YSR Congress Party President said that Chandrababu Naidu government’s negligence in Sugli Preeti case is causing immense pain to her parents.
In 2017, Sugli Preeti, a Class 10 student, was brutally murdered, but the then Chandrababu government completely failed to identify and punish the culprits.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Acting on the request of his parents, after our government came to power, we formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and took the investigation forward. We supported the family by allotting them a five-cent plot to build a house in Kurnool, five acres of agricultural land and a government job to compensate for their loss. Apart from this, on the request of the family, we also ordered a CBI inquiry into the case.”
He said that after Chandrababu Naidu returned to power, the matter was once again sidelined and neglected. Now, when the CBI itself is claiming that it does not have adequate staff and resources to effectively continue the investigation, it is the responsibility of the state government to extend full cooperation and ensure that justice is served. Instead, the government has maintained complete silence.
He said he was even more pained to learn from Sugali Preeti’s parents that their pension had been stopped only because they were speaking out against the government and questioning its inaction.
He asked, “They also showed me the SIT reports prepared during the tenure of our government, CDFD laboratory reports and details of DNA profiling collected during the investigation. When such strong evidence and scientific reports are already available, is it not unjust for the state government to remain a mute spectator and ensure that the investigation reaches its logical conclusion?”
Jagan said that when the bereaved parents met him again today, pleading for justice for their daughter, he assured them that he would stand by them. He said that on behalf of YSRCP, we will provide full legal assistance to the family till Sugli Preeti gets justice.
Sugli Preeti’s parents, Parvathy and Raju Naik, met Jagan Mohan Reddy at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli and appealed for justice in the rape and murder case of their daughter.
Expressing deep anguish, he said that even after nine years, justice has not been served and the Chandrababu Naidu led coalition government is completely ignoring the matter.
