Hyderabad, December 23 (IANS). Working President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of having “not the slightest understanding” of river water matters and termed the irrigation ministers of the Congress government as “dangerously ignorant”.
Addressing the felicitation ceremony of newly elected sarpanches, sub-sarpanches and ward members at the BRS party office in Nalgonda, KTR congratulated the grassroots level public representatives for the victory and said that their success has brought new enthusiasm and confidence in the party.
KTR alleged that the Congress government was indulging in politics of distraction and case drama as it had failed to answer serious questions related to irrigation projects and governance raised by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has raised.
He challenged the Chief Minister and said that he should stop leaking news from behind the scenes and come in front of the cameras and clearly tell which cases he wants to register.
“You are also the Home Minister. If you have the courage then come forward and speak directly, do not hide behind chit-chat and leaks,” KTR said.
Strongly criticizing the Congress government on the issue of water sharing of Krishna river, KTR said that the Chief Minister does not even have a basic understanding of river water management. He mocked the Irrigation Ministers for their inability to answer water-related questions and making “absurd statements” and alleged that they were completely disconnected from the needs of farmers and were misleading the public.
KTR said that while KCR is fighting strongly for Telangana’s rights in the Krishna river, the Congress government neither has the capacity nor the courage to respond to this.
Alleging deliberate obstruction in important schemes like Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, he said that the BRS government had completed 90 per cent of the work, but the present government could not even complete the remaining 10 per cent of the work in two years.
He said non-submission of DPR and attempts to reduce the scope of the project are a betrayal of the interests of Telangana.
On the issue of cooperative societies, KTR challenged the Congress government to hold elections immediately if it really claims to do justice to the farmers. He alleged that the government is afraid of public anger and hence is filling posts through nomination while avoiding elections.
KTR said that the results of the recent Sarpanch elections clearly show the widespread resentment among farmers and agricultural labourers. He alleged that the Congress government has abandoned the promises of extending Rythu Bandhu to tenant farmers, financial assistance to agricultural laborers and other welfare promises and is leaking the case against KCR to divert attention from its failures.
He appealed to the party workers to remain completely focused on the goal like Arjun and said that they should keep demanding answers from the Congress government on its unfulfilled “420 promises”.
KTR made it clear that BRS will neither be intimidated by threats nor cases, but will continue its fight on the public platform until Telangana farmers get justice.
